Hi, my name is Running Wildly……………student. AGAIN. Yes, you read that correctly. And no, it’s not because I failed my undergrad degree. Today I found myself back in university as a graduate student learning all about how to be a full blown emergency room RN. You see, I am currently taking an additional 6 months of school to complete my ER critical care certification. It is a 2 year course condensed into 6 months, so it is, uh, let’s just say…..intense.
I know many of you may be shaking your heads wondering what the heck I’m doing, and truly there have been times I’ve wondered the same thing myself. (No, I'm not on drugs). But what’s getting me through this ordeal is the fact that my current employer is sponsoring me to take this course. That means they are paying me full-time wages PLUS paying my tuition and traveling costs. Yes, I can hardly believe it. I am NOT GOING INTO THE HOLE this time to go to school. In fact, I’m being PAID to go to school. Sooooooooo completely opposite to what I’m used to. And I’m grinning from ear to ear. I love to learn so being a paid student is 100% up my alley.
It was my first day in class today and next week I have 3 assignments due and an exam. When it rains it pours. But I LOVE that I’m getting paid. Totally makes this worthwhile. You can tell I’m enthused because I’m using a lot of CAPS!!! Hee hee. So as for the next week I’ll be a *little* busy. I’ll have more to post when the crunch time is over. Promise. But for now this post will have to do.
Here’s to being a student again. As much as it’s painful to say, this time around it’s not as bad as the last. I am just getting more letters to put behind my name. That makes me cool, right?! Ya. Uh huh. I’ll keep telling myself that. Really, I’m a knowledge junkie. Paying me to attend school only enables my addiction. Perhaps I should seek intense therapy for this. ☺

Very cool! How awesome is that? Getting paid to be in class.
Glad your doing it now instead of later.
One less thing to worry about.
And it will be a HUGE help later in your career.
Best of luck!
Oh yeah...alphabet soup behind the RN...gotta have it! And eventually a bigger name plate too.
Very ,very cool...but I'm a fan anyway! And no head shaking here! Isn't it to be expected, especially when you go into a specialized area that you'll certify? Truly, I'm curious and ignorant.
Wow!! Congrats, and good luck!
Way to keep yourself thriving!
Wow, that's awesome that you are getting paid to go to school! Well I'll be praying for ya! I'm sure you'll do fabulously!
I have followed your blog for awhile and I love your writing! I too am a perpetual student; I'm not sure if I'll ever stop. I teach full-time, I have earned my master's and now I'm going back for an endorsement in another education area. I just wish I could get paid for it too! Good luck!
